Councillor Sarah Russell
Councillor candidate, Westcotes

A passionate and experienced councillor and campaigner.
I’ve been a member of the Labour Party since I was 15 and have worked in every, national, local and European election since then, on the doorstep, on the phone, delivering leaflets, writing and checking copy, sorting walks, at counts and making cakes!
I’ve been one of the ward councillors for the Westcotes ward for 11 years. I live in the ward, with my partner and our two children, and have worked tirelessly to support residents and improve our area. From physical changes such as getting new bike racks, bins and bollards installed – to supporting residents challenge planning applications -to working with community groups to helps them become established I have always sought to keep Westcotes as a focus.
I have been part of the Councils executive team for 9 years – under three leaders. In various portfolios I have balanced managing the appalling impact of government cuts with ensuring Labour priorities are delivered and am proud to have been part of delivering manifesto commitments from Orange bags to Improving services for our most vulnerable children.
I want to continue to represent my local community, to protect our City wherever possible from the impact of the Tory government, protecting services and developing creative opportunities, and fight to ensure we not only have a red Leicester but a Labour Government.
