Councillor Vijay Singh Riyait
Councillor candidate, Abbey

I have proudly served as Labour Councillor for the Abbey Ward since winning a by-election in May 2013 and being re-elected in 2015. I have worked hard to always be a strong voice for the residents of Abbey and fight for resources for the ward. I represent equally people from across the ward without fear or favour. I am open, transparent and accountable.
Some of my main achievements are:
· Keeping Vaughan College going protecting 150 years of adult education of working people
· Regularly volunteering with Sikh Charity MLSS to feed people in the city
· Currently appointed chair of audit and risk committee by the city mayor
· Have fought to keep investment into the cities adventure playgrounds
I was born and brought up in Leicester. My parents were migrants to the city in the 1960s from the Punjab and East Africa. I come from a working-class Sikh family who had to rely on benefits to survive. I was the first in my family to go to university. Labour values have always been a part of me and my family and I will always campaign tirelessly to get a Labour government led by whoever is the democratically elected leader at the time.
