Councillor candidate, Fosse

Syed Zaman - Councillor candidate, Fosse

I am extremely proud and honoured to be selected as the Labour candidate for Fosse, the ward where I have made my home.

I am a lifelong Labour supporter, having always voted and campaigned for Labour. I strongly believe that the 5 Missions, built on the strong foundations of economic stability, national security, and secure borders, will deliver a better Britain for everyone. I have worked in IT in the public sector for almost 10 years – I and my family have personally felt the effects of pay freezes and real time wage cuts and I know how this has impacted families across the country. Although I’m relatively new to Leicester, having grown up and lived in London, I have longstanding ties to the area from studying at De Montfort University, and my wife has family here. I now live on Fosse Road North and am settled in the local community – my children attend our local primary school, Fosse Mead. I’m a member of the local allotment society at Stoke’s Wood and regularly take my daughters there.

I have always been an active member of my local community, in the past I’ve set up local and youth football teams, and aim to do that locally too. The setup model of the teams allowed experienced working professionals to become mentors for young people, which gave the younger members someone that they could turn to for career advice and study support. I strongly believe it’s important to engage with young people and provide positive role models and mentoring to support them to feel confident and raise their aspirations.

I am keen to help deliver a fairer, safer and happier Leicester for ALL.
